The technical differences between three route types

Route names are not simply tier labels. They describe the path between local access, cross-border transport and the exit node. Understanding that structure helps you balance connection stability, coverage, cost and destination.

IEPL dedicated line

An IEPL dedicated line uses a relatively independent cross-border transport path. Data enters through a designated access point and travels over a dedicated link to an exit in the target region, with fewer public-network segments involved. Its value is not an exaggerated peak speed, but reducing the impact of complex route changes on long-lived connections, making video calls, sustained uploads, remote desktops and large-file collaboration more consistent.

These routes generally cost more to build and maintain than standard access, so they are better suited to work that depends on connection continuity. The destination still matters: if you mainly access services in Japan, compare Tokyo and Osaka first rather than choosing a distant exit based only on the “dedicated line” label.

A transit route sends the connection to a suitable entry point first, then forwards it through an intermediate link to the target exit. Compared with direct connections, transit offers a balanced mix of coverage, cost and stability, making it common for everyday browsing, streaming and AI tools.

Transit does not mean the connection always passes through the same location.
